Helfa Gelf

Call For Artists

Helfa Gelf / Art Trail is looking for participants for this year’s open studio event and would love to hear from artists and crafts people across the region. This is an amazing opportunity for artists to get their work seen by both the local community and visitors to the region.

Helfa Gelf /Art Trail takes place in Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham counties. We invite the public to visit artists at work in their studios and it is a chance for visitors to experience this normally hidden world and get to chat to the artists and crafts people about their creative process.

In addition to the Open Studios, curated exhibitions of work will be held in a number of venues across North Wales throughout the year. As a member of Helfa Gelf your work is also featured in our catalogue and you have your own updatable page on our website onto which you can upload an on-line gallery.

This project has received funding through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013 which is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and the European Agricultural fund for Rural Development. Thanks to this money we are able to work with a PR agency this year to increase the profile of the event and the artists involved.

We will also be running lots of free professional development workshops to help artists develop their practice. Our training program has been put together after consultation with the artists and caters specifically to their needs. Workshops included are: digital photography, social media for marketing, creating your own publicity materials, creating a film of your studio to upload onto Facebook, press, publicity and marketing and seminars by a series of established artists and curators.

Helfa Gelf covers a wide range of the visual and applied arts, including painting and sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, jewellery making, basket weaving, woodcarving and photography. It is an exciting opportunity for the public to not only see where and how the artists work but to buy direct from the makers.

The seventh annual open studio event for local artists will be held 7-9, 14-16,21-23,29-30 September 2012.
